How to Use Exercise Progressions
Exercise progressions are the backbone of long-term strength development. Instead of jumping straight to advanced movements, you build up through easier variations that develop the necessary strength, stability, and motor patterns. For example, a push-up progression might go: knee push-up, full push-up, diamond push-up, archer push-up, one-arm push-up. Each step increases the load or stability demand. Master a movement (3 sets of 8–12 clean reps) before progressing to the next. This systematic approach prevents injury and ensures you build a solid foundation for advanced skills.
