How Much Hand Wrap Do You Need?

Hand wraps protect the small bones in your hands and stabilize your wrists when punching. The right length depends on your hand size and how you wrap. Basic cotton wraps (non-stretch) are the most common for beginners and typically come in 108 to 120 inch lengths. Mexican-style wraps use a semi-elastic blend that molds to your hand for a tighter fit, usually needing 10-15% more material. Competition wrapping uses gauze and tape applied by a cornerman for maximum protection. Regardless of style, the wrap should feel snug without cutting off circulation. Make a fist after wrapping; if your fingers tingle or go numb, rewrap looser. Replace wraps when they lose elasticity or start to fray.
