Choosing the Right Judo Throws
Judo throws are classified into four main categories: te-waza (hand techniques), koshi-waza (hip techniques), ashi-waza (foot and leg techniques), and sutemi-waza (sacrifice techniques). Your body type, grip preferences, and experience level all influence which throws will be most effective for you.
Beginners should focus on fundamental throws like Osoto Gari, Ippon Seoi Nage, and Ogoshi before progressing to more complex techniques. Build a game with one throw from each major direction: forward, backward, and to each side. This gives you options regardless of how your opponent moves.
